STOP thinking language-learning with your kids is too overwhelming!Jun 29, 2021
We get it! The thought of trying to learn a language with your preschoolers is just not an option.
“Too challenging,” “Overwhelming,” “Time-consuming,” “No idea where to start,” “Didn’t like them in school” are just some of the things we hear you say about the thought of learning languages with your preschoolers.
Also, your little ones may only be just getting to grips with English - who’s got the time and energy to throw another language into the mix?!
BUT it really doesn’t have to be like this! We’re not talking fluency here, just a gentle way to explore languages with lots of guidance. Oh and having lots of fun too! For benefits that will last a lifetime. 🧡💚
So, we are here to change that mindset! Languages do not have to be overwhelming, time consuming or too much of a challenge to take on.
After all, we are all linguists - whether you speak one language, or seven! (It’s true - you're reading this aren't you?!)
In reality, there are only two things you need to get started:
1. the decision to go for it!
2. YOU as the parent or carer getting involved in the learning too!
“But how when I don't speak any languages myself?” We hear you exclaim!
Take your cues from your little people. Do as they do and just listen to the words and repeat. Don't get caught up with how things are spelt or if you're butchering the pronunciation.
Learn gently and stop pressurising yourself! You don't need to aim to be fluent, and neither do your little ones.
Simply exploring various languages and opening your family’s minds to the diversity out there will kickstart a curiosity and love for languages that will give you both lots of benefits for life!
